Replacement Car Key Cases - FAQs

Will my key still start the car after I have replaced the case?

Yes—provided you transfer the transponder chip, which is often hidden in the plastic case.

What tools do I need?

Usually none beyond our handy key case opening tool, made from durable plastic, ergonomically designed and very easy to operate. Perfect for opening key cases without damaging them. Please see item number AF-LT-28

Can the case affect the remote signal

Quality cases won’t interfere with range. If you are struggling with remote signal try changing the battery.

My case broke—do I need to get it programmed

No—the remote’s programming resides in the transponder/chip, not the case. Just swap it over and test.

Will the internals from my existing key fit into a new key case?

Yes, exact model match is critical—internals from one fob may not align with another design. If they do not fit exactly minor modifications like trimming plastic with a Dremel or scalpel are sometimes needed, but this must be done at the customers own risk.
